Featured Pet! I'm in LOVE with LIAM

Hey Everyone!
I know I tend to always have a special favorite BUT I am in LOVE with this baby at the Columbiana County Dog Pound and Adoption Center.
From his pictures so you can see just how gorgeous this boy is! He reminds me so much of a little girl named Skittles that was at the mahoning co. pound a while back that I loved to pieces.
I have been admiring him on Petfinder for several weeks and finally went down to go see him the other day. He is a SWEETHEART. He is extremely charming and just has the SOFTEST coat you've ever felt and he's gorgeous to boot with his handsome markings and big smile.
His name is Liam and his shelter ID# is 0312. He is a young male Shepherd mix maybe 2 yrs old. He gets along well with other dogs and they even think he is housebroken!
If I had room here I would swoop in immediately and pull him myself even just to foster so that I knew he was safe, but after out last foster fiasco I have been banned from bringing anymore dogs home. Plus I don't think my one dog (Blaze) would take kindly to bringing another male home anyway (he only gets along with females, puppies, and dogs smaller than him- what can I say, he's a brat).
So I am BEGGING that you pass this on and cross post the heck out of it so someone can save this sweet boy! His euthanasia date was WAY back on November 12th! So he is on majorly borrowed time down there. I don't think they are as bad as Mahoning with euthanizing but he is still very much at risk!
If you are interested in Liam his Petfinder page is: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12302053
His adoption fee is $80 and that includes his neuter, panacure dewormer, a rabies shot, a 7 way DHLPP vaccine, and his license. An extra package is available for $40 more that includes a heartworm check, flea control, and additional DHLPP booster vaccination.
You can also add a Bordetella vaccine to the package for $10. That means that for a mere $130 you get a fully vetted dog (cheaper than any vet's office I know) with a month of flea control! Or for just $80 you get all the basics.
Please help this sweet boy find a home where he is safe and loved!

FEATURED PET OF THE WEEK!!
Now onto the good stuff.

Sable is a DROP DEAD GORGEOUS PURE Husky/Siberian Husky. All of us volunteers LOVE HER TO DEATH at the pound. She is VERY sweet, VERY loving, and VERY well mannered dog. As far as we can tell she gets along well with other dogs and loves being in the company of people. She walks well on a leash and is just stunning both with her looks and personality.
If you would like to rescue or adopt SABLE her pound ID# is 888, you will need this when you call the pound cause they don't know the dogs by name only by number.
The pound contact information and a bit more info on Sable can be found on her petfinder page which you can view by clicking on the title of this post or on the following link:

Featured Pets of the Week
Our first featured pet is BRIDGET!

Admittedly they aren't the best pictures, but that's cause they were taken on her first day in the pound so she was a little camera shy. But in person she'll charm the pants right off ya! She is SO sweet it isn't even funny. She LIVES to just be petted and is content just being in the company of people. She walks EXCELLENTLY on leash and gets along GREAT with other dogs! She isn't cat tested but I have a feeling she'd be fine with cats and probably kids too.
She is a great girl with great temperment and personality. And she is on borrowed time at the Mahoning County Dog Pound. She could be Euthanized by heart-stick ANY day. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Bridget PLEASE call the pound at 330-740-2205 EXT 2 Her ID# is 795 and she is waiting for you to save her!!
Her Petfinder Page can be viewed at: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12099821
Our Second Featured Pet is HONEY!

Honey is just the cutest little thing you ever did see! She is so sweet and LOVES people. Honey is a Shar-pei mix with the most adorable scrunched up little smoosh face. Honey walks well on lead and gets along well with other dogs.
Like Bridget, Honey is also on borrowed time! She could be put down at anytime and it would be a shame. She is going to make someone a GREAT pet! Her ID# is 836 and if you are interested in meeting or adopting her please call the pound at the number listed above.
Honey's petfinder page can be found at: http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=12207263

Breed of the Week - All American Mixed Breed
The American Mixed Breed dog goes by many names. Mutt, mongrel, cur, mixed breed, mix, Heinz 57 and many others.
My favorite term for the mixed breed dog is an "All American" which is the term used for dogs of mixed pedigree registered with the United States Dog Agility Association(USDAA).
Today more than ever the average american dog in the average american household is some sort of rescued dog and a lot of them are mutts. This trend is thanks to the efforts of shelters, rescues, and even purebred clubs putting the word out there about the terrible plight faced by shelter dogs in this country.
But more education is needed. If you know someone who is thinking of getting a dog or you yourself are thinking of getting a dog here are some helpful tips.
1. start off on an all breed website like AKC.org or with a book on dog breeds and research what type of dog and what breed(s) are the most compatable with your lifestyle - if you want a dog that will simply sit at your feet all day and is happy with just being by you than you may want to look into breeds that were developed just to be companions a dog that was bred to work in a field 12 hrs a day running around and herding sheep is probably not the type of dog that would fit into yourhouse hol
2. Once you find a breed or breeds you like visit a dog show or join an online dog group geared toward that breed to learn from people who already own the breed. Their experience and information are invaluable.
3. next decide what age and sex of dog you would prefer.
4. Then its time to hit the local shelters, dogs of every shape, age, size, and kind can be found in shelter cages just waiting to be saved. Even if you must have that "purebred dog" they are available in shelters and through breed specific rescue groups.
5. Don't be fooled by backyard breeders. That ad for the cute puppy in the paper is not a good choice. "Rare colors and Sizes" are also things to be leary of when looking for a dog. Know the breed of dog you are interested in inside and out before you go to buy. Teacup, pocket, king, and giant are not things you want to see advertized by your potential breeder. Also consider pricing, breeders who charge more for a particular sex, color, coat type, or size are to be avoided. A breeder that will charge extra for "papers" is also one to avoid. find a reputable breeder through breed clubs, local kennel clubs, the akc, or through owners who have been involved in your breed for years, your vet's office may even have some reputable breeders to refer you to.
6. DO NOT BUY YOUR PUPPY FROM A PET STORE!!!!! Unless that petstore is working with a rescue to rehome unwanted dogs, the puppies in their windows are from puppy mills! And responsible pet owners do not support the cruelty of puppy millers.

Beau is a wonderfully behaved, handsome Boxer Shar-Pei mix. His owner was forced to move into an apartment where she was unable to keep Beau and she was forced to abandon him at the Mahoning County Pound. He came in on 6/6 and is available for adoption/euthanasia on 6/12.
He doesn't have a lot of time!
If interested please contact by phone @ 330-740-2205 EXT 1 OR 2 to adopt this precious dog. BEST TO CALL BEFORE ADOPTION / EUTHANASIA DATE to request to be put on the adoption list for this dog. PLEASE HELP US SAVE THIS DOG!!!

*EDIT*
I was at the pound walking dogs today and have a picture and a few more comments to add.
She is SUCH a great girl.
Not too sure how well she’ll react to other dogs though in the kennel and while walking she is VERY interested and barks her head off but doesn’t really posture or show overt aggression so I dunno.
The good news is the head of Canine Crusaders (a rescue that works with the pound - who I’m fostering ace for) is willing to pull her and has her name on her as of now, but she have no where to put her. She already has all the kennels at her home filled and a stack of crates in her house full of recent pulls and no open foster homes.
Still keeping my fingers crossed for this kid.
IF you are interested PLEASE contact the pound from her petfinder page above or Canine Crusaders at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/OH673.html
IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TEMPORARILY FOSTERING HER PLEASE CONTACT CANINE CRUSADERS!
