Sweet Valiant

Valiant was Euthanized and my heart is broken for him.
Valiant was a gorgious shepherd lab mix with brindle points that was disposed of like garbage by his owners. He came in as a stray with a sad face and a giant pinch collar. there was something about him something in his eyes and I knew he was a valiant hero at heart. So Valiant became his name.
He needed a warm home and a second chance, but he got several terrifying weeks at the pound.
The stress of the pound environment was too much for him and he turned. With love understanding and a bit of work he would have come around but he wasn't given a chance.
Rescue's wouldn't step up to save him and he got worse with every passing day. Eventually to the point where it was clear he wasn't going to be saved and was for lack of a better term unadoptable.
That was when he was shoved into the back by the pound staff, to sit cold wet and more terrified than before simply awaiting is tragic fate.
Then the day came when his time was up. If he was lucky it was done correctly. He was taken to the bullroom and an IV was used to sedate him. Once he was under a needle was inserted directly into his heart and the lethal drugs were administered until he drifted off into an endless sleep.
If by a stroke of bad luck it wasn't done correctly he was in for a much harsher fate. He was dragged out of his kennel at the end of a catch pole fighting in vain for his life. his mouth was tied shut and without sedation a needle was jammed in the area of his heart and it was left to chance if it hit right or not. If it did he was spared more suffering but if not he was in for a cruel and painful end.
My heart aches to think of him scared and hurting fighting for a chance to escape.
It breaks to know he didn't make it.
His eyes haunt me and tear me up inside. Sweet Valiant guarding his life.
